Viscous stabilizations for high order approximations of Saint-Venant and Boussinesq flows

چکیده

Two viscous stabilization methods, namely the spectral vanishing viscosity (SVV) technique and the entropy viscosity method (EVM), are applied to flows of interest in geophysics. First, following a study restricted to one space dimension [17], the spectral element approximation of the shallow water equations is stabilized using the EVM. Our recent advances are here carefully described. Second, the SVV technique is used for the large-eddy simulation of the spatial and temporal development of the turbulent wake of a sphere in a stratified fluid [16]. We conclude with a parallel between these two stabilization techniques.

Numerical Study of Staggered Scheme for Viscous Saint-Venant Equations

This paper describes a numerical scheme for approximate the viscous Saint-Venant equations. This scheme is called staggered grid scheme which is a robust, simple and strightforward scheme for viscous SaintVenant equations. Some numerical simulations have been elaborated to validate the accuracy of the scheme, such as the calculation of the convergence rate L1-norm error of the scheme, the compa...

Shallow Water Equations: Viscous Solutions and Inviscid Limit

We establish the inviscid limit of the viscous shallow water equations to the Saint-Venant system. For the viscous equations, the viscosity terms are more degenerate when the shallow water is close to the bottom, in comparison with the classical NavierStokes equations for barotropic gases; thus the analysis in our earlier work for the classical Navier-Stokes equations does not apply directly, w...

A case study of flood dynamic wave simulation in natural waterways using numerical solution of unsteady flows

Flood routing has many applications in engineering projects and helps designers in understanding the flood flow characteristics in river flows. Floods are taken unsteady flows that vary by time and location. Equations governing unsteady flows in waterways are continuity and momentum equations which in case of one-dimensional flow the Saint-Venant hypothesis is considered. Dynamic wave model as ...

Crack analysis of an orthotropic circular bars reinforced by a magnetic coating under Saint-Venant torsion

This paper presents an analytical solution for an orthotropic circular cross section bar with a magnetic coating weakened by multiple arbitrary oriented cracks under Saint-Venant torsion by means of the distributed dislocation technique. At first, the solution of the orthotropic bar with a magnetic coating weakened by a Volterra-type screw dislocation is achieved with the aid of the finite Four...

The multilayer shallow water system in the limit of small density contrast

We study the inviscid multilayer Saint-Venant (or shallow-water) system in the limit of small density contrast. We show that, under reasonable hyperbolicity conditions on the flow and a smallness assumption on the initial surface deformation, the system is well-posed on a large time interval, despite the singular limit. By studying the asymptotic limit, we provide a rigorous justification of th...
